In 2010, after assisting the previous curator for two exhibitions, Michelle was invited to curate the British Glass Biennale. The UK’s major exhibition of contemporary glass, along with its parent festival, the International Festival of Glass, attracts thousands of visitors to the West Midlands across the August bank holiday every two years.
Michelle was responsible for all aspects of the design and build of the show. With 82 artists exhibiting 115 pieces of work, from small scale plinth based work to larger installations and hangings, Michelle had to design the space to ensure each artist was represented equally. It was also essential to create a cohesion to the show given the varying techniques being displayed. To enable this successfully Michelle had to co-ordinate artists, volunteers and contractors.
During the lead up to the exhibition, Michelle had to work alongside the Brand and Design Consultancy and the PR and Marketing team to ensure the completion of the catalogue, advertisements and show graphics to generate press, public and artist interest in the exhibition.
